The Future And Funding of Entertainment Shows

I just found out that NBC passed on the New Wonder Woman show.

I am a bit disappointed, but I thought about how the future and funding of tv shows could go. In the late 90s, I came up with the way to get free music by placing ads at the beginning, and no one paid any attention. Now, if you go to youtube, you get an ad with professionally-produced content.

Back to Wonder Woman.

They already paid for the pilot episode to be done. The network passed on it. So, they should sell the episode online (I would pay to see it!) and if it sells enough (say $1 million?), then they start working on the second episode. This will allow fans to determine if the series is a “go”. This will also keep studios from producing shows that have decreased in popularity. So, let’s say the first episode sells well, the second one sells half as much… They stop making them.

They wouldn’t have to have commercials and everything is paid for, up-front.

When you get this, it may take a while for it to download-probably due to the number of people also downloading it-so be patient!

UPDATE:

Well, I finished downloading all but 1 song on Monday, and the link said it had expired. Ho-hum… So, I got the song from my usual place, since I had already *paid* for it. (Even though it was less than 10 cents!) I also downloaded the special edition and found the songs that were not included on the 99 cent version to be very good. I would be interested to know how many sales Amazon.com got from this promotion and how they intend on allowing me to download the last song-now, it’s just the principle of it.

Did Gaga hit another milestone?

Out Of Fashion-Sample-Taboo-Broadway

I saw the musical “Taboo” when it was in previews on Broadway and I had gone in with expectations that it was going to be the Boy George show. I left the theater not as impressed as I could have been. BUT, after getting the album and then watching a cammed version, I got it. My favorite song from the show is “Out Of Fashion” because it combines 5 or 6 songs from the show sung “in the round”. Excellent mashup!

Anyway, one night I was playing around with some recording and decided to make this little “Out Of Fashion” sample. I liked the way it came out!

Synergy – Use Keyboard And Mouse on Networked Multiple Computers

I used to use Multiplicity from Stardock to control a computer connected to my TV, but it didn’t like Vista and it hated Windows 7, so I searched for an alternative. I found Synergy, which is a FREE (!) program that allows you to control another computer on your network with the local keyboard and mouse. After some playing with it, I was very satisfied, but I couldn’t get it to automatically start when Windows started until I did the following.

1) Make sure it’s not running. (Check the system tray icons beside the clock on the bottom right of your screen.)
2) Locate it on your START menu. (“Where’s ‘Start’?” UGH!)
3) RIGHT click it and choose “Run As Administrator”
4) Click EDIT -> SETTINGS
5) Check the box that says “Automatically Start Server or Client…”
6) Click OK
7) Click EDIT -> SERVICES
8) Depending on which machine you’re on, click either the server or client INSTALL button
9) If it fails, you are probably not running it as administrator (go back to step #1!)
10) Now it should start automatically!

After using this for a while, and a reboot happening, it stopped connecting. I found the reason. I had given the client the host name as the PC name, and it should be the IP address. Make sure your firewall allows it. Still works like a charm!!!

SNL/Saturday Night Live-Next Top Model

I am usually disappointed with SNL. Everyone knows they have one or two great sketches and the rest is filler. I would attribute it to the fact that it would be very difficult to maintain funny ALL the time. I was reminded tonight of a skit they did that I loved which spoofed America’s Next Top Model. Here’s the video: (That’s what she said…)

Lady Gaga-Born This Way and the Madonna Comparisons

It took me several listens before I liked the latest Lady Gaga song, “Born This Way”. But, as usual, the video kicked it over the edge for me. The video looks like a B sci-fi movie and it’s very campy. But what struck me was at the end of the video, there is a close shot of her face with a tear, and she has a fake gap between her teeth-the Madonna trademark. In fact, the makeup is very much Madonna as well! Amazing how much she looks like her in this shot!

So, it became apparent that Lady Gaga has the last laugh. All the comparisons to Madonna just gave her material to use.
